As news, studies and polls continue to shed light on the prevalence and the severity of sleep disorders, the science of diagnosis and treatment of these sometimes devastating disorders must grow to meet the rising challenge. "It's all about meeting the patients' need," says Colton Pearson, manager of the ODH Sleep Medicine Center in Brewster, Washington.

The increased awareness of sleep disorders by both patient and physician has been met in the past with long waits and prolonged results. Seeing 1 - 3 month backlogs by testing centers must change with to meet the need. That is why ODH Sleep Medicine Center has doubled its capacity to diagnose and treat patients with OSA and other troubling sleep disorders. We had reached our capacity and could not do more with our facility and staffing, and we were still scheduling patients as much as 2 months out before we could find them a bed.

That was before Hospital Administrator, Dale Polla, Sleep Doctor Larry Smith and Manager Colton Pearson moved to increase capacity and decrease prolonged waits by expanding nights and more than doubling staff, adding Marci Kane, REEGT and RPSGT, to organize and streamline the scheduling and communication with physicians and patients. Then, we added Shawn Swope, RPSGT, to our productive but over-worked staff.

We are excited to be able to help significantly more patients each week. Seeing and experiencing a patient find long needed help for such a devastating disorder is a heartwarming reward. Our ability to follow up on a consistent basis is exactly what the doctor ordered. It is exciting around here every day!
